School-based Instrumental training

What can MPHK do for a school's school-based development?

Every school is unique. MPHK possesses core expertise and a systematic approach in instrumental training, enabling us to create distinctive characteristics and advantages for both the Music subject and the extra-curricular activities team. We effectively align with school-based management, ensuring every programme is school-oriented, student-centered, and quality-focused, while infusing the unique vitality of music and the arts to enhance students' learning outcomes.

This philosophy and operational framework is something that ordinary neighbourhood music shops, teaching centres, or self-organised school-visit interest class companies run by individual instrumental instructors simply cannot compare with.

Fighting side by side with music teachers

The scope of music education is extremely broad, covering vocal and instrumental music, classroom and extra-curricular activities, solo and ensemble, classical and popular, performance and composition, theory and practice — each of these areas may require more than ten years of study before one can be considered an expert. Even higher music education tends to be highly specialised, so it is impossible for any music graduate to be an "all-rounder" (jack of all trades).

Therefore, when music teachers need to support the school's development of diverse musical training (various instrumental classes, establishment of different ensembles), MPHK serves as the best resource bank for teachers. We bring together specialists in different areas to arrange suitable instructors and curricula tailored to the school's specific training needs!

Systematic curriculum design and resources

It is only natural that different instructors have different teaching styles. However, if the curriculum is not standardised and unified, students' progress will vary according to each instructor's personal preferences, which is not ideal for building a cohesive school music community. Therefore, we strongly believe that school-based instrumental class curriculum design must be unified, incorporating objective standards to ensure the effectiveness of both teaching and learning.

Beginner ensemble textbooks for primary school groups

Rooted in solid theoretical and practical foundations, we have developed a series of beginner ensemble textbooks specifically for lower primary students in Hong Kong. These materials ensure that instrumental classes are rich in content. Backed by fifteen years of practical experience, we have proven that these textbooks are suitable for all lower primary students, with full consideration given to individual learning differences. We adhere to the principle of "teaching students according to their aptitude", allowing students of different personalities and abilities to all experience the benefits of learning an instrument.

Orchestral/ensemble repertoire library

In addition, our ensemble music library provides ample training materials for groups at different stages of development, corresponding to both in-school and public performance and competition goals. All of the above is by no means empty talk — every year, MPHK comprehensively evaluates results through territory-wide unified assessments, curriculum-based competitions, in-school performances, and public concerts.

Seamless collaboration with the ECA team

While instrumental classes belong to the knowledge domain of the Music subject, the actual operation is closely related to the workflow of the extra-curricular activities team. Over the past fifteen years, we have collaborated with various schools and accumulated experience in delivering more than 100,000 lessons. Smooth lesson delivery is the most basic requirement we set for ourselves. More than that, we are willing to work according to each school's development needs, to find the most effective and resource-efficient ways of running activities, and to develop with schools programmes that have strong growth potential and high training effectiveness.

MPHK Elementary Course for beginners - EXCLUSIVE!

In recent years, many children started to learn a musical instruments at primary 1. However, most famous method books available are not designed for young beginners. The difficult content and harsh progress might discourage children to continue. The new generation needs a new set of teaching method. Therefore, we have developed a series of elementary books to set appropriate content for musical instrument group classes. In the past years, we have continuously collected feedback from instructors, reviewed the learning results, and continuously revised and finalized this series of books. The books have been used by hundreds of students every year, and we continue to develop supplimentary materials to optimize the training outcome.
