Violinist John Henry Kruer joined the violin section of Hong Kong Sinfonietta in 2014. Born in San Sebastian, Spain and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, he received a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance from Eastman School of Music, where he studied with Oleh Krysa, as well as a Master’s degree in Music and an Advanced Music Studies Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studied with Cyrus Forough and received a full tuition scholarship.

Besides playing as a full-time member of Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Kruer has performed as a freelancer with Ulster Orchestra (Belfast), Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, and Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.

Kruer served as both concertmaster and second violin section principal of student orchestras at Pacific Music Festival, Carnegie Mellon University, and Eastman School of Music. He has participated in many student summer music festivals including Music Masters Course Japan, Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, Sarasota Music Festival, and the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music School and Festival
